8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. On offer is a super archive of six [6] manuscript letters handwritten by Mrs. H. J. Minthorn from Metlakahtla Alaska to Lorena Brownawell Tayne dated 1896 - 1897. Dr. and Mrs. H. J. Minthorn were missionaries in Alaska during this time period and very interestingly the Minthorn's were aunt and uncle to President Herbert Hoover; Dr. Minthorn being his uncle and foster father. Historians, researchers and collectors of the era and the subject of Alaskan natives and missionary efforts to convert them will find a treasure trove within the letters as they detail the Indians in the area and their customs as well as details of Metlakahtla. One multi page letter appears to be missing its title page. There is only one envelope. Overall VG.. Book Condition: Very Good
